COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Branch Intermediate School District Superintendent Kris Jenkins told the district’s Board of Education on Wednesday that she will be retiring on June 30.
Jenkins has served as the B.I.S.D. Superintendent since July of 2018 and has been in education for 36 years.
Jenkins said in her letter, “It is with a lot of mixed emotions that I submit my letter of retirement from Branch ISD, effective June 30, 2025. Seven years ago you took a risk hiring me. I wasn’t the most experienced person for the job, not having ever been a superintendent. I like to think that it was a good fit and I was the right person for the organization at the time. I quickly grew to love and appreciate the
organization, all of the people in it and the greater community.”
She went on to say, “My plan was to retire when there were other people who needed me. With aging parents, the time has come to switch my focus and help take care of them. And, not getting any younger, it is time for Tim and I to start enjoying retirement together.”
Jenkins thanked the board for their support, direction and care over the last seven years.
“I couldn’t have asked for a better board to work with. I was also deeply blessed
with the best administrative team around. I am so proud to have worked for this great organization. I hope that during my time here we advanced the mission at least a little bit and that the next superintendent will continue to move the organization forward. I am fully committed to ensuring a smooth transition and will support the district in any way I can during this period of change.”
She was the Calhoun County I.S.D. Assistant Superintendent when she was selected to take over for Joe Lopez when he retired.
The B.I.S.D. Board of Education will now begin the process of finding a company to help in the search for a new superintendent.
The Michigan Leadership Institute assisted the B.I.S.D. Board during the last Superintendent search seven years ago.
