COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Cardinal basketball teams welcomed the Hastings Saxons to the Coach Floyd Eby Gymnasium Friday on Ball Out for Breast Cancer Night and picked up a pair of victories.
The Lady Cards set the tone in their contest with a 23-3 first quarter advantage as they prevailed 50-16. Coldwater shot 18-for-41 from the field while holding the Saxons to 3-for-30 shooting, 0-for-9 from beyond the arc.
Mya Porter led all scorers with 10 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists, while Audrina Bucklin added 9 points and 5 boards, Elli Anderson contributed 8 points, 3 assists, and 3 steals, and Paisley Harvey had a career-high 7 points.
Coldwater improved to 9-4 overall, 6-1 in the Interstate 8, a half game behind Parma Western atop the league standings.

In the nightcap, the Cardinal boys prevailed 42-39 as they had to fend off a hungry Saxon squad looking to win for just the second time this season. Hastings led 7-3 after the first quarter, but Coldwater put together a 14-4 second stanza t0 take a 17-11 halftime lead. While the Saxons had a 28-25 advantage in the second half, the Cards were able to bleed out the remaining 11.3 seconds of the contest with a 3-point lead to preserve the victory.
Gavin Taylor had a game-high 17 points, while Ayden Dirschell added 10 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 4 steals.
With their fifth straight win, Coldwater improved to 9-6 overall, 6-1 in the Interstate 8, and remain a game ahead of both Harper Creek and Pennfield in the league standings.
