COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Board of Commissioners gave formal approval to Sheriff Fred Blankenship to purchase body and in car cameras for his department during Tuesday’s regular meeting.
Blankenship said during last Thursday’s work session the least expensive quote was from Motorola in the amount of over $123,000 and that the funds for the cameras were included in the 2025 budget.
Blankenship said the contract with Motorola was for five years.
The Sheriff admitted the cameras could possibly lead to more Freedom of Information Act Requests.
The Commissioners approved a request from the Sheriff’s Department in April of 2021 to purchase eight body cameras for Corrections Officers.
