BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – The Concord Yellow Jackets still lead the Big 8 Conference girls basketball standings but they had to hold off the upset minded Quincy Orioles on Thursday night as they defeated the Orioles 34-31.
After falling behind 25-11, the Orioles dug in defensively and gave up nine points for the rest of the game but their rally fell short.
Deziray Skirka led Quincy with 10 points while Ashlyn Fickle had eight points and six rebounds. Kendyl Musielewicz added six points.
Concord is 8-0 in the conference and they are still leading the Bronson Vikings by a game-and-a-half for first place.
The Vikings won their fifth straight game on Thursday night as they defeated Reading 42-33. Bronson is now 6-1 in the Big 8 and 10-2 overall.
Their only conference defeat came at Concord on January 3 when they lost to the Yellow Jackets 49-46. Bronson will host Concord on Tuesday night.
The Union City Chargers lost at home to Springport 64-44. The Chargers are now 0-5 in the Big 8 and 4-9 overall.
Also in girls basketball on Thursday night, Tekonsha defeated Hillsdale Will Carleton Academy 32-15.
