LANSING, MI (WTVB) – 35th District State Representative Jennifer Wortz of Quincy will be able to use her years of experience on family farms in Branch and Hillsdale counties, being appointed Thursday to the House Natural Resources and Tourism Committee and the House Agriculture Committee.
Wortz was selected as Vice Chair of the House Agriculture Committee and will serve in her first term as the second highest-ranking position on one of the most important policy committees in the legislature.
“The opportunity to correct changes in law on so many different policy areas really excites me,” Wortz said. “All of the focuses of the committees I have been assigned to matter to people in my district, whether that be infrastructure, agriculture, or even administrative rulemaking, which heavily impacts businesses in rural Michigan.”
Prior to being elected in November, Wortz was the manager of the Branch County Conservation District. After growing up on a small cash crop and beef farm in southern Hillsdale County, she earned a degree in Agricultural Communications from Michigan State University. She currently owns a poultry production farm with her family and is a member of the Branch County Farm Bureau.
She was also appointed to the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and the Joint Committee on Administrative Rules.
