LANSING, MI (WTVB) – A 30-year-old man was sentenced last Friday after he threatened the life of former Hillsdale County Prosecutor Neal Brady in a social media post.
Paul Hawkins of Hillsdale County, who is currently incarcerated at G. Robert Cotton Correctional Facility near Jackson, was sentenced to 133 days in jail for posting threatening messages on the Hillsdale City Police Department’s Facebook page.
Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel says Hawkins was found guilty in January by Judge Megan Stiverson of the 2B District Court in Hillsdale County on charges of Malicious Use of a Telecommunications Service and Using a Computer to Commit a Crime.
Hawkins posted messages that threatened the life and property Brady while he was on parole last May. Brady was the elected prosecutor at the time of Hawkins’ previous criminal convictions.
Nessel said in a statement through her office, “Threats against those who serve our communities cannot and will not be tolerated. My office will continue to protect public officials from intimidation by prosecuting those who seek to undermine their safety and the public’s safety through fear.”
