BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – Icy driving conditions caused by overnight freezing rain forced the shutdown of schools throughout Branch County on Thursday.
School officials throughout the county decided during the 5:00 a.m. hour to scrub for the day instead of issuing two hour delays.
The frozen precipitation turned area roads and sidewalks into a skating rink.
In addition to the school closings, the Branch Area Transit Authority decided to run their busses only in the City of Coldwater on Thursday morning.
The bad weather also forced the Browne Aquatic Center and the H and C Burnside Senior Center to shut down for the day.
The Branch County Courthouse delayed opening until noon which forced the Board of Commissioners work session to be rescheduled to 9:00 a.m. on Friday morning.
