BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – The M.H.S.A.A. Individual Regionals this weekend will feature 29 wrestlers from Branch County.
The Boys Individual Regionals on Saturday will feature 12 wrestlers from Union City, eight from Bronson, three from Quincy and two from Coldwater.
The top four finishers in each weight class qualify for the M.H.S.A.A. Individual State Finals in two weeks at Ford Field in downtown Detroit.
Coldwater’s Raul Cecilio (215) and Dayton Miller (150) will be competing at the Division Two regional at Gull Lake.
Quincy’s Ryan Rose (106), Aaron Jones (120) and Landon Bearden (165) qualified for the Division Three Regional at Olivet.
Bronson and Union City wrestlers will compete at the Division Four regional in Martin.
Union City advanced 12 wrestlers including seven district champions. District title winners were Blayne Crance (106), Kaden Russel (120), Mitchell Graham (126), Mason Hawthorne (132), Logan Mears (138), Aidan Taylor (144) and Alex Boyer (150). Other Chargers advancing were John Olmsted (175), William Thompson (215), Kelub Miller (144), Isaiah Waidelich (157) and Montana Connell (157).
Bronson will send eight wrestlers onto regionals including four district champions. Viking district champs were Gabe Erwin at 157, Layne Knisely at 165, Mason Lindsey at 190 and Sam Tappenden at 285. Other Vikings who qualified for regionals were Connor Harvey (215), Brayton Cosby (113), Wyatt Weinberg (138) and Collin York (150).
Four wrestlers from Branch County will compete on Sunday in the M.H.S.A.A. girls individual regionals at Portage Northern.
Mackenna Webster of Bronson won the Dowagiac district championship at 140 pounds. Also advancing to regionals were Kailynne Scare of Bronson (190), Maleah Grubbs of Tekonsha (190) and Madelynne Hawthorne of Union City (105).
