MARSHALL, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Cardinal basketball teams had a rough night at Marshall High School, as they lost both ends of their doubleheader against the Redhawks to close out Interstate 8 play.
The Lady Cardinals were particularly shorthanded; three players were unavailable due to injury or illness, at least three others played despite being under the weather, and two JV players were called up to fill the roster. Despite all that, they led Marshall 11-9 after the first quarter. The Redhawks outscored their guests 28-8 in the middle quarters and held off a 13-3 rally in the final stanza to get a 40-32 victory.
Elli Foley led all scorers with 25 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 steals, while Marie Powers added 4 points, 5 boards, and 4 blocks.
Coldwater and Marshall finished tied for second place in the Interstate 8 with identical 9-3 records. The Redhawks improved to 15-5 overall, while the Cardinals fell to 12-8.
