COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The City of Coldwater is receiving the sixth highest payout from the State of Michigan in marijuana tax revenue to municipalities for the 2024 fiscal year.
In figures released last week, Coldwater was only behind Detroit, Grand Rapids, Lansing, Kalamazoo, and Battle Creek, and tied with Traverse City, Ypsilanti, and Bangor Township for sixth with $757,000.
Coldwater City Manager Keith Baker says the City Council has designated all of the cannabis tax revenue to the Rotary Park renovation project and other park projects.
Municipalities are paid just over $58,000 for each marijuana retail store license. That is almost the same amount as fiscal year 2023.
The Village of Quincy is receiving $174,685, while California Township will get $58,225, and Branch County will receive $989,887.
In Hillsdale County, the Village of Camden will get $232,914 and the City of Reading will receive $174,685.
Aside from the nearly $100 million in disbursements to municipalities, counties, and tribes, more than $116 million was sent to the School Aid Fund for K-12 education and another $116 million to the Michigan Transportation Fund.

Perfect! Money from what used to be considered an illegal drug. Next thing will be money from meth or fentanyl dispensers. We already are overrun with Hatians, might as well add Zombies to the mix.
