QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – The Quincy Orioles and the Union City Chargers advanced to the semifinals of the M.H.S.A.A. Boys Basketball Division Three district tournament at Quincy on Monday night.
The host Orioles rallied from a ten point deficit in the third quarter to eliminate Branch County rival Bronson 53-49.
Bronson led 26-21 at the half. Quincy started their comeback late in the third quarter and trailed 39-34 at the start of the fourth period.
The Orioles used a 19-10 fourth quarter to win the game and improve their record to 12-10. Quincy advances to Wednesday’s semifinal game against Schoolcraft which will tip at 5:30 p.m..
Kam Brackett who scored a game-high 30 points for Bronson as the Vikings finished their season with a record of 11-12.
Brandon Miner led Quincy with 20 points while Alex Dunn added 17 points and Ryan Kempter scored eight points.
In the second game on opening night at Quincy, Union City defeated Homer for the second time this season as the Chargers recorded a 64-51 victory. Eli Payne led the Chargers with a game-high 23 points. Aiden Decker added 13 points while Rick Austin scored 10 points.
Union City improved to 15-8 and will face Centreville Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. in a rematch of last year’s Division 3 District Final.
In the Division One District tournament at Battle Creek Lakeview, the host Lakeview Spartans defeated Gull Lake 54-39 to advance to the semifinals on Wednesday night where they will face Coldwater in a 7:00 p.m. contest.
Sturgis defeated Battle Creek Central 49-37 in the other opening round game at Lakeview. The Trojans will play Kalamazoo Loy Norrix at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
In the Division Four District tournament at Burr Oak, Athens defeated Tekonsha 59-25 while Mendon knocked off Pansophia Academy 73-25.
