COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The owner of a local funeral home told Branch County Commissioners during their work session on Tuesday there is a indigent problem in the county which has led to a problem with the proper disposal of bodies.
Kathy Barone is the owner and manager of the Dutcher Funeral Home and she asked Commissioners to look into the issue.
She said the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs for the State of Michigan has changed the way they have to do some of their operations in transporting people who are going to a local crematorium.
Barone said about a quarter of their business involve the removal of bodies following a Branch County Central Dispatch 911 call.
Barone pledged her co-operation with Commissioners and Commission Chair Randall Hazelbaker said they would do some research into what other counties do.
