BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – The Quincy Orioles advanced in the opening round of the M.H.S.A.A. Girls Basketball Division Three district tournament at Bronson on Monday night as they defeated Branch County rival Union City 43-28.
Union City led 17-14 at the half but the Orioles turned the game around with 15-6 third quarter.
Deziray Skirka scored a game high 18 points for Quincy while Kendyl Musielewicz added 13 points. Ellie Williams led Union City with 12 points while Nala Payne had 10 points.
The Orioles improved to 14-9 and will face the host Bronson Vikings Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. in the first semifinal game. The Chargers end their season at 6-17.
The other semifinal at Bronson on Wednesday will feature Centreville against Schoolcraft.
The Coldwater Cardinals will play the Lakeview Spartans on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. in the Division One district at Sturgis after the Spartans defeated Gull Lake 45-30 in the opening round on Monday night. Lakeview is now 14-8.
Coverage of the Lakeview-Coldwater game here on AM 1590 and FM 95.5 WTVB will begin Wednesday at 5:20 p.m., right after the Evening Journal. Gull Lake ends its season at 10-11.
The host Trojans will face Battle Creek Central on Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. after the Bearcats defeated Kalamazoo Loy Norrix 63-46.
Tekonsha defeated Pansophia Academy 48-27 in the opening round of the Division Four district at Mendon. Tekonsha improves to 6-13 and will face Burr Oak Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.. The other semifinal on Wednesday will feature the host Hornets against Colon.
Pansophia Academy ends its season at 0-11.
