CONVIS TOWNHIP, MI (WTVB) – A Battle Creek Police Department drone was used on Monday night to help find a missing man in Calhoun County’s Convis Township.
The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office says they responded to a report of a man yelling in the woods near Q Drive North and 17 Mile Road at about 9:30 p.m..
Deputies found a 47-year-old woman from Houghton Lake sitting in a vehicle at the dead end of Q Drive North.
The woman said she and her 48-year-old boyfriend from Clio had stopped to take a break while traveling home from Mississippi.
After getting out of the vehicle, the man failed to return and was believed to be lost in the surrounding wooded area.
About an hour after the initial 911 call, and within 10 minutes of drone flight time, the missing man was found 250 yards north of the vehicle, lying in tall grass.
He was said to be alert and was escorted back to the scene, where a Marshall Area Firefighters Ambulance was waiting.
He was then taken to Oaklawn Hospital for medical evaluation.
The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office says the drone was critical in finding the missing man on a cold 30-degree night.
The Sheriff’s Office was also assisted by Calhoun County Consolidated Dispatch and the Marshall Area Fighter Fighters Ambulance Authority.
