STURGIS, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater and Bronson opened up play in the 2025 MHSAA Girls Basketball Tournament Wednesday night with District Semifinal victories.
The Cardinals will be going for their third consecutive District trophy on Friday following their 49-37 win over Battle Creek Lakeview in a Division 1 District Semifinal game at Sturgis. After playing the first quarter to a 9-9 stalemate, Coldwater used the long ball to propel themselves to a 21-16 halftime lead and a 36-27 advantage after three quarters, going 8-of-17 from beyond the arc for the game. They closed out the contest by shooting 11-of-13 from the free throw line.
Elli Foley led all scorers with 22 points, including three 3-pointers, to go with 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Elli Anderson and Mya Porter each scored 11, with Anderson draining three triples and Porter adding 4 boards, 3 steals, and 3 blocks. Rylie VanAken had 5 points, and Coley Burkhardt pulled down a team-high 6 rebounds.
The Cardinals will take a 15-8 record into their Division 1 District Final contest Friday night at Sturgis against Battle Creek Central. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m., with live coverage on WTVB starting at 6:45 p.m. The Bearcats advanced with a 61-48 win against the host Trojans in Wednesday’s other District Semifinal game.

At the Division 3 District Semifinals at Bronson, the host Vikings had no problem with Quincy, as they earned their sixteenth consecutive win by beating the Orioles 57-25.
Aubree Calloway led all scorers with 23 points. The Vikings will take a 21-2 record into Friday’s District Final against Schoolcraft. The Eagles upset Centreville 40-29 to advance.
Deziray Skirka had a team-high 7 points for the Orioles, who finished their campaign with a 14-10 record.
At the Division 4 District Semifinals at Mendon, Tekonsha lost to Burr Oak 58-30. The Indians closed out their season at 6-14. The Bobcats will face Mendon Friday in the District Final after the host Hornets eliminated Colon 46-32.
