COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater City Council approved a resolution on Monday night which authorizes the execution of a Power Sales Contract for the city to take part in the American Municipal Power Michigan CAT Project.
The project includes the installation of seven-and-a-half megawatts of natural gas generators at the Michigan Avenue Substation which would provide CBPU a source of backup generation if the need arose.
CBPU Director Paul Jakubczak said AMP discovered during a recent audit that the contract should have been presented to the City Council after the CBPU Board approved it in June of 2023.
Meanwhile, Jakubczak brought the City Council up to date on the solar project on a parcel of land along I-69 between State and Newton Roads.
Jakubczak said they are working with Coldwater Township to finalize Public Act 425 agreements which he estimated would take three to four months to complete. Construction could start next spring if everything goes according to plan.
