COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Historic District Commission approved proposed changes to the building at 40 South Hanchett Street on Wednesday night.
The board approved a Certificate of Appropriateness for the Tibbits Opera Foundation & Arts Council which owns the two-story modern style brick and block structure that was built in 1940.
The project will restore the building’s historic storefront. Final approval of the design was needed from the Historic District Commission.
Tibbits Executive Director Christine Delaney said they are planning to restore the facade and make other improvements.
She said they want to establish an annex in order to support Tibbits Opera House operations.
Delany said work on the building would begin next month.
The Coldwater Downtown Development Authority Board approved a $35,000 facade restoration grant for the project last October.
