COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – New Bronson baseball coach Daniel McMichael earned his first career victory as his Vikings opened the season with a 5-1 victory over Coldwater at Lowe Field.
Bronson scored twice in the first inning, once in the third, and put the game away with a pair of insurance runs in the seventh. Warner Wotta picked up the win, allowing one hit and striking out five in 5-2/3 innings of work. Joseph Fair earned the save; he also singled and doubled, while Reid Stukey added a double.
Finn Hanson drove home the only Coldwater run in the fourth inning; he was also tagged with the loss on the mound as the Cardinals fell to 0-3.
Coldwater returns to action on Saturday, when they host the Southern Michigan Bank & Trust Invitational. Bronson is idle until next Tuesday’s Big 8 opener against Reading.
HILLSDALE, MI – Quincy earned their first win of the season as they split a doubleheader at Hillsdale. In the opener, the Orioles scored twice in the seventh inning to break a 6-6 tie and beat the Hornets 8-6. Hillsdale came back to win the nightcap 7-5 in three innings.
Christian Craven singled, doubled, and had three RBIs, Jimmy Maynard added two hits, and Bryson Estlow drove in two runs in the first game. Ryan Kempter earned the victory in relief.
The Orioles were held to just three hits in the second game.
Quincy opens up Big 8 play next Tuesday at Concord.
