VERMONTVILLE, MI (WTVB) – Cold, drizzly conditions forced the postponement of most high school athletic contests Tuesday. But the Bronson Viking baseball and softball teams made the long road trip to Maple Valley and came away with three victories.
Baseball: Bronson 1, Maple Valley 0
Carson Stevens threw a one-hit shutout with three walks and 10 strikeouts as Bronson blanked defending Big 8 champion Maple Valley 1-0 in the first game of a scheduled doubleheader. The lone Viking run came in the seventh inning, when Kam Brackett’s one-out RBI single brought home Matt Arver.
Lion pitchers held Bronson to just four hits: in addition to Brackett’s RBI single, Owen Kimmons singled twice and Max Arver added a single.
The second game was tied 6-6 in the fifth inning when play was suspended; that contest will be completed on a future date to be determined.
The Vikings improved to 4-0 overall, 3-0 in the Big 8, and will host Prairie Heights for a single game tonight.
Softball: Bronson 18, Maple Valley 0; Bronson 23, Maple Valley 0
Bronson improved to 5-3 overall and a perfect 4-0 in Big 8 play as they swept to victory over Maple Valley, 18-0 and 23-0.
The Vikings return to action Saturday when they play two at Centreville.
