COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Hydrant flushing has begun again in Coldwater.
Coldwater Board of Public Utilities officials say the twice yearly hydrant flushing is necessary to ensure the City’s water distribution system is functioning properly to be assured firefighters, business’s and residents have access to sufficient water flow. Residents may notice a discoloration in their water as well as reduced pressure but can expect water to completely return to normal once the flushing is complete.
Hydrant flushing began Monday with Ward 1, then will continue with Ward 4, Ward 2, and finally Ward 3
CBPU says the water discoloration is caused from mineral deposits being stirred up and flushed through the system, however their are no health hazards associated with the discoloration. If you do experience discolored water they say to run cold water out of the faucet until it becomes clear.
It’s also recommended to do laundry before or after the flushing, and it’s a good time to flush out hot water heaters to improve quality and efficiency. Motorist should be on the lookout and use caution around areas flushing is taking place.
