BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – The Bronson Vikings and the Quincy Orioles split their Big 8 Conference baseball doubleheader in Bronson on Tuesday afternoon as Quincy won the opener 7-2 while Bronson took the nightcap 7-6.
The Orioles used a four run sixth inning to win the first game. Dawson Soergel’s second inning RBI groundout and a fourth inning error which scored Kam Brackett gave Bronson a 2-0 lead.
Ryan Kempter’s RBI single in the top of the fifth cut the Viking lead to 2-1 before Quincy started the sixth inning with four straight hits.
Bryson’s Estlow’s two run single put the Orioles ahead for good. Cobee Stevens added an RBI ground out and Zac Rubley delivered an RBI single during Quincy’s big inning. The Orioles added two insurance runs in the top of the seventh.
Quincy’s Brennan Allman pitched six plus innings to get the win as he allowed one earned run and five hits while striking out five.
Bronson built a 7-0 lead after two-and-a-half innings in the second game and had to hang on as the Orioles rallied in the fading twilight.
The Vikings announced their presence with authority in game two by scoring four runs in the first, two in the second and one in the third.
Owen Kimmons, Brackett and Warner Wotta had two hits. Kimmons and Brackett had back-to-back RBI triples in the second. Wotta also drove in two runs.
Joe Fair was the winning pitcher in relief while Kimmons earned the save.
Quincy rallied for three runs in the third, one more in the fourth and two more in the last of the seventh but the tying run for the Orioles was thrown out at the plate as darkness was descending.
Alex Barry and Estlow both had two hits for Quincy in the second game.
