Lewis G. “Louie” Marvin, 87, of Union City, passed away on Thursday, January 9, 2025 at his grandson’s home, while cuddling with his dog Roxy, due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
In keeping with Louie’s wishes, he will be cremated and a gathering of family and friends will take place on Monday, May 5, 2025 from 4:00 P.M. to 5:30 P.M. A graveside service will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Union City with military honors by American Legion Post 196 of Union City . The family is being served by Lighthouse Funeral & Cremation in Union City.
Louie was born on August 29, 1937 to Othel and Minnie (Burrows) Marvin in Matteson Township, Michigan. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1955 to 1959. In 1960, Louie married Jeanette Stryker. Together they had one daughter. That marriage ended in divorce. On June 29, 1963, he married Diana Weller in Virginia City, Nevada. Together they had three children. He worked at Griswald Manufacturing in Union City, L&S Products in Coldwater, and also worked some construction over the years. Louie and Diana lived in Michigan for most of their life together. However, they retired briefly to Deming, New Mexico for about 13 years before returning back home to Michigan.
Louie enjoyed shooting trap and turkey shoots, traveling all over to different shooting events with his friends. From 1991 to 2002 he ran the trap range at the Branch County Sportsman’s Club. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing pool, and watching NASCAR.
Surviving Louie are his wife of 61 years Diana Marvin of Union City; his children, Renee (John) Hackler of Sturgis, Pete Marvin of Union City, Donna Closson (Keith Bell) of Quincy, Loretta (Dan) Howells of Coldwater; his special grandson, Shane (Nichole) Marvin of Allen; his grandchildren, Michael, Shawna, Danielle, Danny (Krista), and Charlie; 10 great-granddaughters, 6 great-grandsons, his sister-in-law Cathy Marvin; his beloved dog Roxy; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; his granddaughter Shantelle; his siblings, Michael, Russell, Beverley, and an infant brother.
