COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The CBPU Board of Directors approved a request from Fishbeck and Associates on Wednesday to apply for another $3 million Drinking Water State Revolving Fund loan through the Michigan Department of Treasury in order to fund the next phase of the Lead Service Line Replacement Project in the City of Coldwater.
Lead water services lines are being replaced in the City’s water distribution system with a focus in the Fourth Ward in order to come into compliance with the Safe Drinking Water Act.
CBPU Water and Sewer Manager Bryan Massey said in his memo to the board that when the project kicked off, the Water Department had about 1,200 lines that needed to be replaced.
About 400 lines have been replaced over the past three years. Massey says lines in Ward One have all been replaced except for a small portion of East Pearl from Elm to Sprague Streets.
It’s estimated the cost to finish the project is between $7 million and $10 million.
