COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – As one budget year is drawing to a close, the City of Coldwater is putting the finishing touches on the 2025-2026 budget which starts July 1.
The Coldwater City Council passed the second amendment to the 2024-2025 budget on Monday night which reduces its deficit from $306,000 to $60,000.
City Finance Director Tom Eldridge told the Council that they received a $757,000 distribution from the State of Michigan due to the 13 adult use marijuana facilities open in the City as of September 30, 2024.
At the previous direction of the Council, the marijuana funds were transferred to the City’s Capital Projects Fund.
Eldridge also said building permit revenue continues to trend higher and will
be above the originally budgeted amount.
He added the city saved over $50,000 in full-time wages with both the Department of Municipal Services and the Coldwater Fire Department operating below budgeted staffing levels for portions of the year.
The sidewalk extension on North Willowbrook Road was among the items that increased budget expenditures.
Meanwhile, the draft of the next fiscal year budget was presented to the Council on Monday night.
A public hearing on the final draft of the 2025-26 fiscal year budget for the City of Coldwater will take place during the City Council’s next meeting on May 27.
