COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The National Weather Service says southern Michigan and northern Indiana could be in for a bumpy night as a line of storms will push east across the area after 8:00 p.m. this evening.
The entire area has been placed under an enhanced risk of severe weather that could include damaging winds, large hail, and possible tornados.
The weather service says all the key ingredients for the development of severe weather are present including :
- Moisture: Dew points in the mid-60s = plenty of humidity and fuel for storms.
- Instability: Very warm temperatures today will allow plentiful instability, meaning storms will have energy to grow rapidly.
- Lift: A strong, swift cold front and low-pressure system will provide the trigger of thunderstorms.
- Wind shear: There’ll be enough shear present for the potential of rotating thunderstorms, which warrants the tornado risk.
