COLDWATER, MI (WTVB)- It was a frustrating weekend for Coldwater Board of Public Utilities internet customers following an outage that was traced back to last week’s storms.
CBPU announced on Saturday that their supplier Metronet’s primary line was affected by the tornado in Battle Creek on Thursday, and their secondary line was affected by the storms that hit just before 11:00 p.m. on Friday. CBPU continued to update customers via Facebook posts over the weekend reiterating that crews were working to establish the connection.
In a post late Sunday afternoon CBPU said Metronet was waiting on Consumers Energy to clear downed power lines in Battle Creek that would allow them to repair fiber lines to bring internet service back online.
They also said in a post they will evaluate any credit back once service is restored.

So the only way to find out is Facebook, what about the people who don’t have that. You should do article on their lack of preparedness and communication as an ISP and having no alternative plans for something like this. No independent website not linked to the provider to put status and outage information on or a phone number with a recoding for status updates not to mention having the backup line coming from the same location and provider as the primary which creates no redundancy at all. I would list it as an abysmal failure and it sound be reported on for the consumers and not avoided for fear of upsetting CBPU.
I get it, weather/unforeseen events do occur. It just really sucked where I am as borderline cell reception and always relied on the local wifi. Hopefully the wisdom will be to possibly find a 3rd alternate in case the zombies attack….
