Donald W. “Don” Fleming, 96, of Tekonsha passed away Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at his home surrounded by his family.
A memorial service celebrating the life of Don will take place at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 24, 2025 at Lighthouse Funeral & Cremation, 1276 Tate Trail, Union City, MI, with Pastor Rob Schwartz officiating. Private interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Girard Township at later date.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m.., also Saturday at Lighthouse in Union City.
Don was born December 29, 1928 to Carl and Florence (Merrifield) Fleming in Butler Township. July 1, 1956, he married Earlene Wirebaugh in Coldwater, Michigan. She preceded him in death April 9, 2017.
Don proudly served in the Michigan National Guard for many years. Over the years, Don worked at Walters Packing, LA Darling; both in Coldwater, Simpsons in Litchfield, and Community Health Center of Branch County in maintenance, retiring in mid-1990’s.
Don had a great love for the outdoors, camping, traveling, feeding birds, and yardwork. He was an accomplished carpenter, building his own home and helping others with countless projects over the years. Don had a great talent for restoring automobiles, motorcycles, mopeds, and anything with an engine; including his 1946 Dodge Pickup Truck and 1951 Cushman Scooter.
Surviving Don are his children, Angie Fleming of Lincolnton, North Carolina and Al (Dia) Fleming of Tekonsha; his grandchildren, Ashley Fleming and Kevin Fleming; his many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and great-great nieces, great-great nephews; and his sister- in-law, Julie Wirebaugh.
In addition to his wife Earleen, Don was preceded in death by his parents; his step-father, Charles King; his father-in-law, Earl Wirebaugh; his mother-in- law, Joyce Wirebaugh Gifford; his brothers, Carlton Fleming, Ernest Fleming, and Clifford Fleming; his sisters, Mae Sunday, Viola Sunday, and Joan Fleming; and his brother-in-law, Larry Wirebaugh.
Memorial donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Shriner’s Hospital, 2211 N Oak Park Ave, Chicago, IL 60707.
