COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater City Council adopted a final project plan put together by Fishbeck and Associates on Tuesday night that officials say will improve the city’s drinking water.
The plan is needed so Fishbeck and Associates can apply for another $3 million Drinking Water State Revolving Fund loan through the Michigan Department of Treasury in order to fund the next phase of the Lead Service Line Replacement Project in the City of Coldwater.
Lead water services lines are being replaced with a focus in the Fourth Ward in order to come into compliance with the Safe Drinking Water Act.
CBPU Water and Sewer Manager Bryan Musselman said when the project kicked off, the Water Department had to replace over 1,000 lines.
Fishbeck Vice President Deann Falkowski said the project plan will be submitted at the end of the week.
It’s estimated the cost to finish the project is between $7 million and $10 million.
Musselman says the services in the First Ward have all been replaced except for a small portion of East Pearl from Elm to Sprague. He says this area has a watermain that will need to be replaced within the next few years.
