COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The City of Coldwater’s draft budget for the 2025-2026 fiscal year was presented during a Coldwater City Council public hearing on Tuesday night.
The nearly $13 million budget, which is scheduled to be formally adopted on June 9, shows a projected General Fund deficit of $197,000.
City Finance Director Tom Eldridge said property tax revenue to projected to go down by almost $54,000 since the city is subject to a Headlee rollback starting with the next tax cycle.
While that may not seem like a lot of money, Eldridge pointed out the revenue loss will increase yearly unless the City pursues a Headlee override which would require a vote of Coldwater residents.
To achieve best pricing, the planned repouring of the Robert W. Browne Recreation Center’s multi-surface floors will be done all at one time instead of over two years. The project will now be done in the 2027 fiscal year.
With that project being changed, the planned purchase of more Coldwater Police Department body cameras will be moved forward to the 2026 fiscal year.

Back off beggars! Deal with it! You have years to plan for it yet you keep giving your friens tax break, wasting money and boloting the budget. Kiss off!
