COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A new art event will take place in downtown Coldwater next month following its approval Wednesday morning by the Downtown Development Authority Board of Directors.
“Art After Hours” will be held on June 27 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. as a way to encourage foot traffic in the downtown area and to highlight the role that art plays in the community.
DDA Board member Laura Trojanowski from the Economic Vitality Committee said downtown businesses will remain open that evening with many of them hosting local artists while participating restaurants will feature art-inspired promotions.
A live chalk artist is scheduled to appear on South Monroe Street and there also will be a community chalk art competition sponsored by the Coldwater Area Chamber of Commerce.
Art After Hours is part of a series of art projects that have recently developed in downtown Coldwater. The projects include a large sculpture created by welding students at the Branch Area Careers Center, and several paintings by the Coldwater High School National Arts Honor Society.
The 2024 Corridor and Public Amenity Survey identified a clear demand for more public art in the downtown area.
In other business, the D.D.A. Board approved a downtown promotional video that will be produced this summer at a cost of $3,250. The video will be designed to promote downtown Coldwater as a destination.
It’s scheduled to be shot on July 17 during Hops on Monroe. It will then be posted in the middle of August on the downtown Coldwater web site and various social media platforms.
