UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – The Centreville Bulldogs captured the M.H.S.A.A. Division Three Baseball District championship at Union City’s Alumni Field on Saturday afternoon as they defeated the Quincy Orioles 5-1 in the finals.
Winning pitcher Ben Truckenmiller set down the first 14 batters he faced in the finals and held the Orioles to only three hits. Bryson Estlow broke up Truckenmiller’s bid for a perfect game with a two out single in the top of the fifth. Christian Craven and Ryan Kempter collected the other Oriole hits.
Centreville led 5-0 before the Orioles scored in the top of the sixth on a RBI ground out by Mason Graves. The Orioles finished with a record of 17-14.
Quincy advanced to the finals with a thrilling 4-3 come-from-behind victory over the host Union City Chargers in the first semifinal game.
The Orioles trailed 3-2 with two outs in the last of the seventh but tied the game on consecutive singles by Zak Rubley, Brennan Allman and Kempter. Allman then scored the winning run on a wild pitch as the Chargers finished with a 16-15 record.
Centreville ended Bronson’s season in the second semifinal as the Bulldogs defeated the Vikings 10-2. Bronson could not recover after the Bulldogs scored four runs in the first and two more in the second.
Joe Fair’s RBI single and a sacrifice fly by Carson Stevens accounted for the two Bronson runs in the third.
