COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Sheriff’s Office has received multiple reports of a phone scam involving an individual impersonating a deputy.
The caller claims that the recipient has outstanding fines and must make an immediate payment to avoid arrest.
The Sheriff’s Office says they do not initiate collections of fines by phone., and caller demanding immediate payment or threatening arrest “should be considered suspicious and potentially involved in fraudulent activity.”
Sheriff Fred Blankenship urges the public to exercise caution and to contact the BCSO directly at 517-278-2325 to verify any communication that raises concern.
Blankenship says, “stay alert, stay informed, and help us prevent fraud in our community”.
