BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – The Bronson City Council directed City Attorney Chuck Lillis on Monday night to continue going through the court system in an attempt to have the property owner of a dilapidated property at 630 North Matteson Street make necessary repairs.
The property is said to be an eyesore on the north side of Bronson and it continues to deteriorate.
Tickets for violations of the Four International Property Maintenance Code were issued to the property owner in February and May of this year. Bronson City Manager Brandon Mersman says letters to address the issues have been ignored.
An informal hearing was held April 3 in front of Branch County Magistrate Val White. Mersman said in his report for Monday’s City Council meeting that she issued fines outlined on the civil infraction tickets but did not give an order to the owner to make corrections with any type of timeframe.
Mersman reported since there had been no effort to improve the building, the second ticket was recently sent.
One option that has been explored was to have the City of Bronson make improvements and then assess it on the taxes. But Mersman pointed out this would likely result in significant staff time finding contractors to make the improvements.
