ANGOLA, IN (WTVB) – A rural Angola, Indiana man has been taken into custody in connection with the recent theft of a vehicle that occurred in Steuben County.
June 5 just after 2:30 p.m. the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a stolen work van from a business in the 600 block of West SR 120 in rural Jamestown Township.
The vehicle was recovered the next day in a parking lot near the intersection of SR 127 and CR 400 N.
Sheriff’s detectives then began gathering evidence and information during the investigation to identify a suspect. Through investigative efforts, Sheriff’s detectives were able to identify 35-year-old Shane Michael Rakentine of Angola as the alleged suspect.
Tuesday morning shortly after 9:00 a.m., detectives located Rakentine at his residence at the American Inn on SR 127. After a brief interview, Rakentine was taken into custody for level 6 felony auto theft and misdemeanor possession of marijuana.
Rakentine was booked into the Steuben County Jail where he remains held in lieu of a $4,000.00 bond. The Angola Police Department assisted the Sheriff’s Office in the investigation.
