ANGOLA, IN (WTVB) – Fort Wayne man has been arrested on serious felony charges following a Steuben Count Sheriffs Office investigation into a burglary that occurred at a Jimmerson Lake residence in rural Jamestown Township. On
Wednesday at around 2:00 pm, deputies were called to a residence in the 100 block of Ln 305 Jimmerson Lake on a report of a burglary to that residence.
The victim indicated to 911 dispatchers that he had just returned home from being out for the day and found that entry had been made. Several items were found to be missing including a large quantity of valuable coins and several firearms. Sheriff’s detectives initiated the investigation and quickly began gathering evidence and following leads.
Within just about 24 hours, detectives were able to identify a witness and a suspect. Further investigation led to a search warrant for a residence in Fort Wayne. Friday morning just after 6:00 am, Steuben County
detectives executed the search warrant on a residence in the 4200 block of Meridith Dr in the city of Fort Wayne, IN.
Detectives were assisted in the execution of the search warrant by the Steuben County Sheriff SRT Team, the Allen County Sheriff SWAT Team, and the Auburn Police ERT Team. The search of the Fort Wayne residence yielded a portion of the property allegedly stolen from the Steuben County residence including valuable coins and some of the firearms.
The suspect identified as 37-year-old William Roy Darnell Britt of Fort Wayne, IN was also located inside the residence and taken into custody. Britt was transported back to Steuben County and booked into the jail on preliminary charges of Residential Burglary while Armed with a Firearm, a level 2 felony and Possession of a Firearm by Serious Violent Felon, a level 4 felony
Britt remains held in lieu of a $60,000.00 bond.
The case still remains under investigation and additional charges may be sought in Allen County in connection with suspected drug related items that were also found inside the residence.
