COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Board of Public Utilities Board of Trustees approved an ordinance and resolution Wednesday night that implements an inspection process for all commercial grease traps and interceptors in order to protect and preserve the City’s wastewater piping.
Water and Wastewater Superintendent Brian Musselman said fats, oil and grease are detrimental to their wastewater collection and treatment systems.
Musselman said the Water Department will do the inspections.
He said in his memo to the Board that a significant amount of wastewater system blockages can be traced to fats, oils and grease and that blockages are causing sewage spills, manhole overflows and sewage backups in homes and businesses.
The proposed Ordinance and Resolution will move onto the City Council for introduction.
