COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – With lots of attention brought to the sustainability of rural hospitals across the country in the past few weeks, on the heels of controversial legislative decisions on who and who cannot receive Medicare and Medicaid coverage, Insight Hospital in Coldwater has issued a statement renewing their commitment to service to the residents of Coldwater and Branch County.
The statement reads, “Insight Health System remains committed to providing care in Coldwater because as a nonprofit hospital, it’s critical for it to stay open for life-saving care. While recent discussions around federal policy changes have highlighted challenges facing rural hospitals, Insight Hospital and Medical Center Coldwater continues to serve the community, with a focus on long-term stability, innovation and access. Oncology is now seeing more patients for example.
Also since joining Insight, the Coldwater hospital has expanded advanced interventional pain treatments that were previously unavailable in Coldwater, delivered by a team of board-certified physicians and specialized providers. Our cost-effective model and ability to maximize resources allow us to continue delivering care where it’s needed most“.
The statement comes just days after 5th District Congressman Tim Walberg said at a town hall-style meeting in Coldwater that many rural hospitals would not be able to remain open, many due to years of bad decision making.
