COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The deadline for applications to be submitted for the open Branch County Chief Public Defender position passed last week.
Branch County Administrator Frank Walsh told the Board of Commissioners during their work session Thursday that there were four applicates for the job which became open when Matthew Glaser suddenly resigned on May 22 after almost six years on the job. No official reason was given for his departure.
The search committee consisting of Circuit Court Judge Bill O’Grady, District Court Judge Brent Weigle, Probate Court Judge Kirk Kashian, County Clerk Terry Kubasiak, County Commissioner Jon Houtz and Walsh will discuss the candidates.
Walsh says the goal is to make a final decision by the end of July.
The County Commissioners appointed Chris Vreeland as the Interim Chief Public Defender May 27. He had been serving as Glaser’s assistant.
