COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Board of Commissioners brought forward an agreement with Coldwater Township during their work session on Thursday to order new equipment for the Branch County Sheriff’s Department thanks to solar grant funding from the Township.
Just over $194,000 will be spent with over $160,000 being used for new Tasers. Over $28,000 would be spent on handguns with over $5,900 being spent on a Sheriff’s Department phone app.
Sheriff Fred Blankenship wanted to replace outdated tasers and modify the type of handguns his deputies carry as part of the department’s 2026 budget.
After Blankenship talked with Coldwater Township officials, the Township Board approved expenditures of just under $196,000 in solar grant funding to the Sheriff’s Department.
Formal action on the agreement is scheduled to be taken by Commissioners during Tuesday’s meeting.
