COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A line of storms rolled through Branch County Thursday evening leaving some Consumers Energy customers without power and downing trees and power lines.
A Severe Thunderstorm Warning was issued for the western portions of the county just before 7:00 p.m., but fortunately the storms began to weaken shortly after the warning was issued. There were reports of a few trees and power lines that were knocked down including an unconfirmed report of a tree into a home on Central Park Drive in Coldwater.
As of this morning Consumers Energy was reporting 145 without power in Branch County, 208 in Calhoun County, 303 in Hillsdale County, and only 17 customers in the dark in St. Joseph County.
In Calhoun County, a man survived a lighting strike while sitting in his vehicle near Fort Custer. The vehicle caught fire and was a total loss.
There was also extensive flooding in Calhoun and Kalamazoo counties.
