COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The US-12 Heritage Trail Garage Sale, known as “Michigan’s Longest Garage Sale,” began in 2003 and has since become a annual event in Branch County, and beyond.
Stretching over 200 miles from New Buffalo to Detroit along the historic US-12, this three-day event, held each year the second weekend of August, transforms the highway into a treasure hunter’s paradise. In Branch County, the sale has grown into a community tradition, with residents, farms, and businesses setting up shop in yards, parking lots, and fields to offer antiques, collectibles, furniture, fresh produce, and homemade goods.
The event not only showcases the region’s rich history, as US-12 is Michigan’s second-oldest highway, established in 1825, but also fosters a sense of community by connecting locals and visitors through shared stories and unique finds, like vintage finds.
Over the years, the US 12 Garage Sale in Branch County has evolved, drawing thousands of bargain hunters and vendors, with over two dozen registered sales in the county alone. The US 12 Garage Sale was even a go in 2020 most other events were either postponed or canceled due to the Covid 19 pandemic.
