FREMONT, IN (WTVB) – The Department of Justice has sentenced a man from Litchfield to five years in prison.
Arvil W. Bryant Jr. was sentenced Thursday after pleading guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm.
In May of last year, the 32-year-old was traveling through Fremont, Indiana on a motorcycle when he was apprehended for a warrant out of Michigan. According to court documents, while he and his motorcycle were being searched, Bryant was found with a gun that was reported stolen. Since he was a convicted felon, he was prohibited from owning a firearm.
Upon further searching, the officer found an “improvised explosive device” that was attached to the handlebars of the motorcycle. State and local bomb squads were called to the scene to dismantle and secure the device.
From there, he was arrested and taken to the Steuben County Jail. He was initially charged with possession of an explosive device, stolen handgun, hypodermic needles, marijuana and controlled substances.
Bryant will have three years of supervised release after serving the five-year prison sentence.
