COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Alex New, a 55-year-old Branch County man, was sentenced Monday by Judge Bill O’Grady in 15th Circuit Court to a minimum of 58 years in prison for sexually assaulting a minor, following his conviction in June on two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and one count of second-degree criminal sexual conduct.
New, who had been a fugitive since 2016 after being charged by the Branch County Prosecutor’s Office, was extradited from Florida in June 2024 through Operation Survivor Justice, a collaborative effort involving the Michigan Attorney General’s Office, local prosecutors, and the U.S. Marshals Service.
