COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The trial of a Virginia truck driver will be delayed until early next year due to renovation work at the Branch County Courthouse.
53-year-old Brian Lowry of Virginia is accused of causing an accident last November at the Fenn Road exit of I-69 that claimed the life of 24-year-ol Logan Hunnaman of Coldwater.
Lowry was charged with a one-year misdemeanor of a moving violation causing death, after a Michigan State Police investigation into the November 5, 2024 accident.
The in-cab video showed Lowry slowed but did not stop as he exited I-69 northbound at the Fenn Road exit. According to the police report Hunnaman was eastbound and crossed over the I-69 bridge when Lowry’s truck allegedly failed to stop at an intersection of 69 and Fenn Road, causing Hunnaman to ride his motorcycle into Lowry’s semi.
During a pretrial hearing, Lowery appeared via zoom call and entered a plea of not guilty.
Judge Brent Weigle initially set the next court date for December 18, 2025 but following objections from Hunnaman’s family of that being his birthday, Judge Weigle said the next pretrial hearing will be set for early January.
Judge Weigle said renovations are scheduled to start after Labor Day and won’t be completed until late this year. He said the very small magistrate’s courtroom will be available, but it cannot handle trials.
Lowery turned himself in in June and was released on a $1,000 bond.
