COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Branch County received some much needed rain this past week but it did very little to lesson the drought conditions that are plaguing the area.
The National Drought Mitigation Center, based at the University of Nebraska, released their U.S. Drought Monitor on Friday and continue list Southern Branch County as being under moderate drought conditions and the Northern half is listed as abnormally dry.
After a rainfall deficit of more than four inches in August, the national weather service says this weeks rains delivered less than a half inch, leaving most of the county more than three inches below normal for the month of September.
The extended forecast as of today is not promising to quell the drought conditions anytime soon as the 6-10 day is showing very few chances of any new precipitation through the first week of October.
Parts of Northeast Indiana have been upgraded to severe drought.
