COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The calendar says it’s the first full week of fall and we should be breaking out the hoodies and pumpkin spice, but as it turns out Mother Nature has other ideas.
As we wrap up the month of September and move into October this week weather history says our high temperatures should be around 67 degrees, but the forecast for the week has daytime highs ranging from 10 to possibly as much as near20 degrees warmer than average. Along with the above normal warmth there is also little to no chances of rain in the ten-day outlook that will no doubt exasperate the drought conditions that have gripped the area for the last few weeks.
The US Drought Moniter late last week continued to place Southern Branch County in moderate drought conditions and the northern half of in the abnormally dry category. We will find out Thursday if and how much the moderate drought conditions expand do to the lack of rain.
As for the effect on fall foliage if the dry conditions persist it could cause the fall colors in the trees to be less vibrant, and the trees could shed their leaves faster and earlier than normal.
