BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – It was a busy weekend for the Branch County Sheriff’s Department resulting in multiple arrests.
On Friday Deputies were dispatched to the 400 block of Sprung Lake in Bethal Township in response to a reported felony assault. Upon arrival, deputies encountered a 30-year-old Coldwater man who had barricaded himself inside a
garage with a shotgun. The St. Joseph Valley Response Team (SRT) was requested for assistance. The suspect eventually exited the structure voluntarily and was taken into custody without incident.
A search warrant was executed, and the firearm was recovered. Fortunately, no physical injuries were reported. The suspect was lodged at the Branch County Jail on felony assault charges.
On Saturday morning during a traffic stop on Orleans Boulevard in Coldwater, at approximately 4:30AM, deputies located a quantity of methamphetamine on the driver, a 48-year-old Coldwater man. The suspect was arrested and lodged at the Branch County Jail on felony drug charges. The Coldwater Police Department K9 unit assisted on scene.
On Sunday Deputies received information that a 24-year-old Coldwater resident was wanted on an active arrest warrant issued by the 3A District Court for homicide. Using law enforcement investigative tools along with determination
and investigative knowledge, deputies located the suspect inside an apartment in the 200 block of Cutter Avenue in Coldwater.
The suspect was taken into custody without incident or injury and was lodged at the Branch County Jail. The Coldwater Police K9 unit assisted on scene with the arrest.
Around 3:00 a.m. Monday morning deputies initiated a traffic stop on S. Parham Road near US-12. During the stop, a 49- year-old Colon man resisted arrest and physically fought with deputies. While deputies attempted to take the suspect into custody, the driver’s dog exited the vehicle and bit one of the deputies.
The animal was safely secured, and the suspect was arrested. He was lodged at the Branch County Jail on felony resisting and obstructing charges, as well as felony drug charges. The deputy sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
