BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – For the second straight month, the Bronson City Council tabled formal action Monday night on proposed changes to the city’s golf cart and UTV ordinance.
The Council directed the city staff during its August meeting to present an amended ordinance allowing for the use of golf carts and UTV’s a half hour after sunrise and a half hour before sunset.
Currently, the ordinance allows the use of those vehicles one hour after sunrise and one hour before sunset.
The Council was scheduled to take action on that part of the amended ordinance on Monday.
But when the Council discussed allowing golf carts and UTV’s to cross U.S. 12 at other locations besides the main four corners, City Attorney Chuck Lillis pointed out the proper steps need to be taken.
According to minutes from the September meeting, Councilmember Rick Johannes said he felt it was too hectic at the main four corners to cross and would like to consider allowing crossing at other places along U.S. 12.
Bronson Police Chief Steve Johnson had a mixed opinion. The light at the four corners helps to regulate traffic, but he also stated there could be less congestion in other areas.
The Council also agreed to hold a public hearing before action is taken next month.
