MARSHALL, MI (WTVB) – When Ford’s BlueOval Battery Park in Marshall was announced, economic development officials said the economic and housing impact would be felt as far away as Coldwater. Now, that is coming true.
The battery project has spurred developers to begin new housing projects like apartments in Coldwater, to make up for the current housing shortage and to plan for the further growth caused by the plant.
In the city of Marshall, the influx of employees is also stimulating significant their housing growth, with over 1,000 new housing units planned or completed since the project’s announcement.
The Marshall Area Economic Development Alliance says the revitalized housing market includes large projects like the Hughes Street Development, which aims to have nearly 1,000 units by 2030, and the Emerald Hills project, which already has three completed homes, and plans to eventually have 250 new units.
The construction surge is the first in Marshall in decades, and is seen by local officials as essential for accommodating the projected 1,700 employees expected at the battery facility next year.
