BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – The latest 11-player high school football playoff rankings from the M.H.S.A.A. show that Coldwater, Union City and Bronson would make the post season while Quincy is two spots away from qualifying.
The top 32 teams from the eight 11-player divisions qualify for the playoffs. The rankings are determined by a playoff point system that factors in a team’s performance and strength of schedule.
Entering the final week of the regular season, the 6-2 Coldwater Cardinals dropped to 24th place in Division Three after Friday’s 40-37 loss to Hastings with 49.375 points. The Cardinals close out their season at Marshall.
In Division Seven, Bronson and Union City would get in if the playoffs started this week.
The 7-1 Vikings are 16th with 34.625 points after they defeated Reading 44-0 while the 5-3 Chargers dropped to 25th place with 27.875 points after they lost to Springport 35-34.
The 5-3 Quincy Orioles are 34th in Division Seven with 24 points after they won at Maple Valley 17-14.
The official M.H.S.A.A. announcement on who qualified for the state football tournament will be made on Sunday, October 26.
